Hermann-Josef Runggaldier
Hermann-Josef Runggaldier was born in 1948 in Ortisei in Grölden (South Tyrol), where he still lives and works today. He began his training at the art school in Ortisei with his teacher Markus Valazza. He then learnt the basic techniques for his profession as a sculptor in various workshops. At the same time, he developed his own sculptural language, which detached itself from the artisanal context. He had his first solo exhibition in 1971 in Ortisei, followed by many more in South Tyrol, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. In 1981 he won the Bavarian State Prize at the international fair in Munich and in 1990 and 1991 a gold medal at the 43rd and 44th autumn fairs in Bolzano. He is represented by the Antonella Cattani Gallery in Bolzano, which regularly exhibits his work and presents it at international art fairs.
"Hermann-Josef Runggaldier is not someone who merely captures the moment, his sculpture has weight and far-reaching roots... With his figures, Runggaldier is increasingly careful to reveal humanity itself, in this respect similar to the demands of classical sculpture, with its search for beauty of form and harmony. He seems to make clear statements, but at the same time leaves everything in limbo: "I belong to a group and feel lonely, I am here, my gaze wants to look into the distance. And what am I actually waiting for?" Gabriela Crepaz in the exhibition catalogue "Figura" p.90 - A history of the figure in South Tyrol/Tyrol/Trentino after 1945

Sabine Kybarth's artistic position revolves around our world of consumption and goods with their seductive displays. At first it was only the viewer's gaze through the rain-soaked shop windows into the constructed scenery, until in the end the mannequins themselves become active in a new role as representatives of the people in these pictures. Mannequins revitalise our imagination and take us on a journey. They can be used to arrange scenes and reflect on the relationship between nature and art, appearance and reality, truth and lies. They symbolise the man-made, the constructed, the object-like and also man himself.
