Artistic position

"Hermann-Josef Runggaldier is not someone who merely captures the moment, his sculpture has weight and far-reaching roots [...]
With increasing care, Runggaldier's figures reveal the humanity itself, similar to the demands of classical sculpture with its search for beauty of form and harmony.

He seems to make clear statements, but at the same time leaves everything up in the air:
I'm part of a group and I feel lonely, I'm here, my eyes want to look into the distance. And what am I actually waiting for?"

Gabriela Crepaz in the exhibition catalogue "Figura", p. 90 - A history of the figure in South Tyrol/Tyrol/Trentino after 1945
