Introduction to the exhibition: Ute Wöllmann in conversation with the artists

This exhibition is based on the idea of different concepts of reality.
Jo Kley has an elementary presence with his stone sculptures. Since 1998, he has been pursuing his art concept "KleyCity" with the idea of erecting a tower sculpture in as many countries of the world as possible - 25 countries so far - in order to forge a bond of international understanding, as it were. An installation of various "Kley-City" tower sculptures will be installed in the centre of the gallery.
Jo Kley does not see himself as an inventor of new forms - ladders, towers, knots, spirals and crystals have accompanied mankind since time immemorial. They are real forms, but also allegorical, metaphorical and symbolic figures. What is exciting about Jo Kley's sculptures is how movement and energy materialise in the stone. The hard stone is in motion, pulsating and dynamic. The filigree protrusions in some of his sculptures emphasise this lightness right into the sharp corners. The different stones impress with their impressive sensuality and power, some of them with highly polished surfaces.

Ingeborg Rauss deals with various systems of human organisation. She superimposes elements from pop art and conceptual art in various layers of painting, combining generally legible pictograms with personal sign inventions in a restless, visually very modern visual language. In her latest works, which are presented in this exhibition, she has explored the question "digital - real - how real is reality?", in particular how the ubiquitous presence of smartphones and the internet is changing our society. For her latest work, she worked together with eight pupils - 4 girls and 4 boys from the 6th and 7th grade Petrinum Linz. She photographed the young people with their smartphones in their hands and asked them about their favourite apps, which formed the basis for her pictures.
