Dear friends of the Akademie für Malerei Berlin,
I cordially invite you to the vernissage of the exhibition "Schichtwechsel" with abstract oil paintings by Christoph Primm and black room sculptures by Bettina Lüdicke on Monday, 17 March at 7 pm in the ROOT gallery.
The artists will be present in person and will also provide insights into their work in a discussion led by me.
As always, you can also take part in this event online via ZOOM. To do so, click on the following link shortly before the vernissage begins:

In his new series of paintings for the "Schichtwechsel" exhibition, Christoph Primm has chosen dark primers on which he layers his oil colours and makes them glow. It is a feast for the eyes to see how he weaves an abstract pictorial space structure from sweeping gestures with impasto oil colours in many layers. Constructed from impasto colours, the painting suggests the lightness of the play of colours.
In Bettina Lüdicke's largely transparent spatial sculptures made of copper or bronze wire, the mostly black meshes of lines wrap around the air. The sculptures bend around themselves, follow an inner rhythm and present the lightness of space-creating abstract forms.
Paintings and sculptures enter into a dialogue in their abstract formal language. The linear hatchings in Bettina Lüdicke's sculptures, which are stretched into surfaces, draw their own structures into the space. Christoph Primm's material presence of his brushwork responds to this filigree quality and itself gains in lightness. I look forward to many visitors and inspiring encounters!
Yours, Ute Wöllmann
