KÜNSTLERGESPRÄCH with Hanne Karch and Armin Göhringer on
Friday, 25 October 2019 at 6 pm
In this exhibition, both artists present us with a new world of something very familiar: wood and forest. In Armin Göhringer's work, the material wood is taken to its absolute limits and reduced to its mass, which seeks balance with black massiveness. In Hanne Karch's work, the forest is reinterpreted with colours. The two artists are not interested in the naturalness of the wood or the forest, but rather it is the basis for the invention of artificial space. In Armin Göhringer's sculptures, the black weights seek their relationship to the space; in Hanne Karch's work, the power of colour defines a new colour space beyond the architecture of the forest.
Armin Göhringer creates his wooden sculptures exclusively with a chainsaw from
out of the compact trunk. They are a sophisticated construction of lightness and
Heavy, of carrying and loads, of standing and falling and a sophisticated system
of the masses. In doing so, he pushes the boundaries of what is statically possible. His formal language
is abstract: cubes, blocks, cuboids, rods, grids. Göhringer's virtuoso handling
with the material and its possibilities and limits is breathtaking.
The vertical framework of the tree trunks provides an anchor for the maximum colour contrasts,
with which Hanne Karch shows us the forest anew. With a sure feeling for tension in the picture, she places light and dark areas, and with an unerring sense of drama she boldly composes exciting areas of colour. Hanne Karch is a master of her medium. She has not only developed a unique, but also a very effective artistic standpoint, which cannot be overlooked even from a distance!
