Artistic position

The core theme of Matthias Stuchtey's sculptural work is his preoccupation with spaces, dwellings and architectural structures.

The artist creates new structures from found objects such as used furniture, MDF boards, packaging crates and brand-new interior fittings.
Changing the individual elements, taking them apart and putting them together again, forming clusters, are all part of the artisanal process.

Like a kaleidoscope, he declines the existing internal structures into ever new forms.
They reveal an unknown inner life of the material composition and functionality of their construction, which are part of the formal language of Matthias Stuchtey's sculptures.

He first develops a spatial element from which he allows his modular systems to grow processually.
The resulting sculptures open up spaces for reflection that inspire us to think about urban problems in our coexistence, about the mediocre design that surrounds us, as well as about design, changes, limits and visions in human coexistence.
