Artist talk with Norbert Klaus

Dear friends of the ROOT Gallery

I cordially invite you and your friends to the
Artist talk on Friday, 27 May 2016 at 6.30 pm with Norbert Klaus
to the ROOT gallery.

Norbert Klaus works with brushwood. His working material is brushwood from bushes, hedges and shrubs, which he first sticks together to form compact wickerwork from branches. Each type of brushwood follows its own laws of processing, collecting and drying depending on the seasons and growth phases. This is followed by the formative trimming. The sculpture is created with its fragmented, brittle surface. The form-enclosing surfaces consist of a multitude of round and oval cut surfaces. The basic vocabulary of the brushwood sculptures are sphere, cube, cuboid, cylinder, lying, standing, hanging. The sculptures live from the contradiction of geometry and nature, primal - standardised, rounded - smooth. Similar contrasts can also be found in his graphic works. The working material brushwood is used in a new way in his embossed prints. The original forms are retained, while light and shadow determine the formal order of the paper reliefs. Norbert Klaus lives and works in rural surroundings near Ulm, he has converted an old farmhouse into a studio and his working material comes from the surrounding landscape.

Norbert Klaus and I are looking forward to inspiring encounters!

Best regards, Ute Wöllmann
