Artist talk with Ute Wöllmann on Sunday, 13 December 2015 at 12 noon
With the pictures of Ute Wöllmann and the sculptures of Ellen Mäder-Gutz spring and summer with their blossoming power enter Advent and the ROOT Gallery!
What the two artists have in common is that their artistic work is inspired by their engagement with nature, which offers them an immeasurable wealth of motifs and forms. Floral motifs are the leitmotif of Ellen Mäder-Gutz's sculptures, "...whereby it is never about the mere depiction of flowers and plants. Rather, the artist reduces the forms and structures of botanical events to the essentials in order to visualise the invisible lines of force in nature" (Dr. Martin Feltes, Chairman of the Kunstkreis Cloppenburg e.V.). In the exhibition, Ellen Mäder-Gutz's colourfully glazed wooden sculptures enter into an exciting dialogue with the botanical elements and vegetative forms in Ute Wöllmann's paintings, which are presented with great painterly verve. Ute Wöllmann combines impasto oil paint with thin, delicate watercolour and achieves tremendous surface tension through the maximum range of thin glaze layers to impasto surface textures. Ellen Mäder-Gutz, on the other hand, achieves both an external and haptic concentration on the simple form through the intensive treatment of the wooden surface
Ute Wöllmannfounder and director of the Akademie für Malerei Berlin and managing partner of Galerie Root am Savignyplatz, studied painting with Georg Baselitz at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin from 1983-1989 and became a master student in 1989.
Prizes, scholarships and numerous exhibitions at home and abroad followed.
In 2010, she opened Galerie Root am Savignyplatz, a producer's gallery that has already been represented at numerous national and international art fairs, together with lecturers, master students and students from her academy.
The textbook "On the art of successfully studying painting" was published in 2012
In 2014, Ute Wöllmann took over the producers' gallery and has been running it as Galerie ROOT UG (haftungsbeschränkt) since then. At the beginning of 2015, she moved into new premises at Hardenbergstraße 9, front building, 2nd floor on the right. On the same floor opposite is the Akademie für Malerei Berlin, with which Galerie ROOT has been working for 10 years and represents both lecturers and graduates of the Akademie für Malerei Berlin as artists. In addition, it is a central concern of Ute Wöllmann to present artists beyond the mainstream. The gallery's concept mainly focuses on contemporary painting. The spectrum ranges from realistic to non-representational to experimental positions. The gallery has been a member of the Landesverband der Berliner Galerien since 2012.
In 2016, the gallery will be represented at art KARLSRUHE for the third time.
