The exhibition "10 Years Academy - 5 Years Gallery ROOT: Lecturers of the Academy of Painting Berlin Exhibit" emphasises the successful approach of cooperating directly with the Academy of Painting Berlin and demonstrates the artistically innovative power of the artists teaching at the Academy. Their art and their discussions create the environment in which painting is taught and ensure the high quality standard of the training.
The Akademie für Malerei Berlin has been offering a private, 10-semester programme for 10 years. The aim of the programme is to develop one's own artistic, authentic and mature work, which is measured against the standards of current, contemporary art. There are currently 51 students enrolled on the programme, 53 of whom have successfully completed their studies and have also been appointed master students.
The central aim of the gallery is to present artists beyond the mainstream and to be a platform for them. Authentic artists whose life paths have produced unique artistic positions. Committed only to their own burning questions about their artistic standpoint, these young but life-experienced artists work independently and strongly, free from the pressure of commercially successful career planning. The gallery opens up its own dialogue with this new art.
The concept of staged dialogues in double exhibitions with different artistic positions, from realistic to non-representational to experimental, will be continued from January 2015 at the new location in Hardenbergstr. 9, but the dialogue will now also be sought with sculptures and installations.
Ute Wöllmann launched her new crowdfunding-based gallery concept for the first time on 8 June 2014 with "Hot Sunday" at Carmerstraße 11 on Savignyplatz. Galerie ROOT is the first gallery to successfully realise its gallery idea and explore new sales channels via a crowdfunding project of this kind.
In June 2014, Ute Wöllmann initially took over the premises of the former ROOT producers' gallery on Savignyplatz and opened her own owner-managed gallery, Galerie ROOT UG (haftungsbeschränkt). Building on four years of experience with the ROOT producers' gallery on Savignyplatz and its successes, she is continuing the tradition of mainly focussing on painting with the new ROOT gallery.
The gallery has been a member of the Berlin State Association of Galleries since 2012.
